I take my grooming very seriously, but why have the serious demeanor with it?
The poodles pick up on your energy.
If you are nervous, they will be too. If you're enjoying yourself, so will they.
So you've taken your poodle to the groomer and you had a bad experience. And you've paid around $150 for a groomer every 4-6 weeks. And often you'd love to be able to just 'tidy them up' in between grooms. And what about time ... how long does it take you to go to the groomer, leave them for hours, then have to go and pick them up?
Or if you have tried to groom at home, how many boring grooming videos have you watched on YouTube or other internet sites, then not get to really see how it's done close up? Then you feel stressed and are worried you are doing something wrong. Your poodle is getting more agitated and playing up, and this stresses you more too. You wonder how to do it better, and want to know how to handle them when they are not being cooperative.
Poodle grooming can be expensive, hard and time consuming. But unless you are grooming for a competition, why not try the 'pet' poodle grooming instead? I know many of you want to or have tried grooming from home (for many reasons), and I know that can feel intimidating. I was there once, and even cried when I first kwiked a dog's nail. That was 14 years ago now.
I am a professional pet groomer, and I want to help and show you how to not only groom your poodle but have fun and enjoy it. Grooming your poodle should be a bonding experience for you both. If you are not relaxed and confident, your dog will feel that. They will play up because they feel your energy. And let's face it, they are so smart they will know which buttons to push!
If you're anything like me, I learn much better by watching rather than reading. I like to see someone do things even if I have to watch the video over and over again. So, to make your life a little easier, I demonstrate the skills, via video modules, on my two different standard poodles. One has thick, curly coat and is difficult to groom (she acts like I am torturing her!). The other has a velvety wavy coat which is fine and he loves looking and feeling his best. He's a prancy boy who just wants to strut his stuff! And guess what? I'm not boring, so bring your sense of humour too!
Here's a quick overview of some videos in the modules:
Grooming tools, equipment and maintenance
Handling your poodle so they (and you) are comfortable
Bathing and drying techniques
Brushing techniques
Ear cleaning and trimming
Sanitary areas
Clean face and feet
Nail clipping or grinding
Shaping the topknot
Blending the topknot into neck
Shaping the ears
Shaping the tail
Blending shorter body to longer legs
Having fun but being productive during the groom
How to ground yourself, lose nervousness and feel confident

Reina is my diabetic alert service dog so she must always be tidy and clean as she is with me going out in public. She takes her job very seriously and loves everyone. Especially babies, children and people with disabilities.
Rhett is a rescue, and is a big snuggler and cuddler. And a goofball! He always wants to make us laugh and he does not just love me, he is IN love with me! He is timid so even though he is not tough, I have to make him look tough! LOL
Matilda (born 26 June 2023) will soon be a Diabetic Alert Service Dog In Training (SDiT). Her big sister, Reina, will be ready to retire by the time Matilda is ready to takeover, which will take 18 months or so. She will be ready to have her first big girl haircut at about 4 months old. She will go through her coat change at around 9 months. Can't wait for that! (just kidding!!!)
Our whole family loves Libi. She groomed our doodle, “Beau,” for many years. She did a fantastic job, and he always looked great. I recall the first few times, he was scared and not particularly well behaved—it was a new experience for him. Quickly, he came to love and trust Libi, and he enjoyed seeing her. I was impressed not only with her grooming, but also her love for Beau and her ability to win him over. He was a relatively large doodle, and she had him trusting and minding her almost immediately. I highly recommend her as a groomer and a kind person who is excellent with dogs. JC Boyanton
I have had a lifetime of dogs who needed grooming and until I found Libi - I wasn’t ever satisfied and tried everyone within 20 miles of Peachtree Corners. I was always nervous to pick up my dogs from grooming - oftentimes they were unrecognizable with a terrible cut or shave. Then along came Libi - who is such a talented groomer. She is always dependable, consistent and professional. My dogs have all loved Libi - and so do I and the rest of my family does too. My Bichon, Hairyson, gets car sick so without the mobile grooming option. I guess he would be one burly little man. Thank goodness for Libi! She is like part of our family. Jeanine C.
Libi is awesome!! Libi was recommended to me when my Labradoodle was a puppy (after a bad experience with another groomer) and has been grooming Jasper for nine years! She is extremely caring, knowledgeable and professional and does an amazing job! Even my vet has commented on how well groomed Jasper is! Libi has been so accommodating and flexible if there was a need to reschedule…especially for a last minute thunderstorm which stresses him out. She truly cares about my dog and goes above and beyond to make sure he has a good experience! Kathy G.
Libi Villagomez has been part of our family since 2016 A dear friend passed and, as promised, I took Toby, a pampered Bichon Frise. I tried commercial groomers and one personal groomer with little success. Commercial Groomers required dropping Toby off in the morning for check-in and leaving him all day. After a harrowing day at the “salon” Toby returned home with a bad cut and was stressed. The groomer that came to the house was unreliable and consistently late. After talking to neighbors and friends I found Libi. With her trailer in-tow, Toby only had to take a walk. Libi is part of the family. She takes time to chat and talks to Toby to calm him. My late mother loved her, we love her and Toby gets a grooming without an all-day outing. After several years, Libi had to pause her career for a while. Once again, I tried a different commercial groomer with very good ratings. Once again, I picked Toby up with a bad cut and was told he shook the entire visit. I called other groomers to find groomers just won’t cut a 15-year-old dog. My only option was to have him sedated during the clean-and-cut process at a veterinarian. Libi and I had been keeping in touch. Time passed and she was slowly taking upgrooming again. She offered to groom Toby again. I was thrilled. She is so patient with Toby as he ages. After grooming, Toby is clean, has an
excellent cut and comes home ready for the day. He isn’t traumatized, wants to play a bit and acts as nothing happened..
Dogs are family…the perpetual 2-year-old. Grooming is a necessary part of many dogs. Toby is pushing 16, still wanders outside for his lazy walks, eats well, and plays a bit. He is happy. Toby can’t stand for the full groom anymore. Libi takes his age and overall health in stride. If it takes longer to groom him, she is so gracious, patient and kind. I give Libi credit for Toby’s longevity and my peace of mind. Cam P.
When I was in my 30s, I saw 2 standard poodles running with their pawrents. I was in love immediately. But I never thought I could have or maintain such a sophisticated looking dog. And in Australia, it's hard to find accommodation who allowed dogs.
Enter my American love story – a leap into a new life, a husband with a dog, and an unexpected journey into the world of grooming at the age of 40. I didn't know what to do with a dog apart from petting it. One day my husband took me to a big box office store, and I was impressed that people could bring their dogs to a shop. Who knew?! Well, probably everybody, but nobody told me! I said I'd love to work somewhere like this, and he encouraged me to apply for a job. I was accepted and started my grooming career as a bather.
I have had type 1 diabetes since 1976, so it came to the point that I was unable to feel my high and low blood sugars anymore. This was my chance to convince my husband I NEEDED to get a poodle! Over the next 18 months, I trained her with the scent work and public access, and she has been an amazing, life saving, diabetic alert service dog. My husband is a retired police officer, and did tell me that it was fine to have a poodle, but it would be mine because he didn't want a 'foo-foo' dog. Very quickly he was 'rough housing' with her and told me he wanted one of his own! He was converted, and that's how Rhett came about. Wifey knows best LOL.
After 2 years of training and grooming, I started my own mobile grooming business in 2012. Within 6 months I developed a loyal client base, acquired a great reputation and I have had a waiting list ever since. I've been called the "dog whisperer" and "best groomer we've ever had". I say this to let you know that if someone like me can go from being scared of dogs at age 40, to becoming confident enough to groom my own poodles (as well as clients' dogs), you can too. You can teach an old dog (me) new tricks LOL.. I love what I do and am confident you also can be a "personality poodle groomer"!
So, whether you are a beginner home groomer, or just can't work out how to give your poodle that extra quality look, I welcome you to learn by broken down videos showing you just how I do it.
